This painting is based on a photograph by Neal Preston. He was Led Zeppelin’s tour photographer in 1973 when he captured a photo of a dove landing on Robert Plant’s hand.
I started listening to Led Zeppelin when I was 16 years old. And according to Spotify I continue to be a Top fan, 18 years after I started burning their music onto CDs. Robert Plant’s voice and harmonica playing is a large part of why they are my favourite band of all time. I painted Robert Plant with an airbrush, and began the dove with gold leaf, pulling from some Stairway to Heaven lyrics – all that glitters is gold. I painted over the gold leaf with a brush, and then an airbrush, but the gold shines through.
