Even nature breaks the rules sometimes.
Leopard cubs are born with blue eyes due to a lack of pigment. As they mature and develop melanin, this colour usually shifts to amber, green, or yellow. In rare cases, this shift doesn’t occur, and an adult leopard will still have blue eyes. This genetic anomaly with reduced melanin in the iris reveals cool tones of cyan and turquoise.
This original leopard’s eye painting incorporates a blend of mediums. Some spots were created using acrylic ink, giving the fur an abstract, watercolour-like effect that blends into the realism created using an airbrush. Some of the fur was added in with a paintbrush, while other details were created by removing paint with a knife. Natural colours are punctuated by the vibrant eye. Watch the painting process.

For example, a 12" x 24" canvas will have final outer dimensions of approximately 13.8" x 25.8" to 14" x 26" once framed.
